History and Civilization
The city is believed to have been founded by Gerard de Chatenois in the 11th century, although written records of the town only date back to 1285 when the town’s name was Geramer.

The best season to visit a mountain resort would of course be winter. You can try the slopes or choose to ski cross country. But Gerardmer is also a popular summer spot as well, offering all sorts of water sports and activities by the lake.
